Statement of Faith Adopted April 1, 2000 Northland Baptist Ministries P. O. Box 110828 Anchorage, Alaska 99511 Joseph A. Carson Pastor We believe in the Scriptures of the Old and New
Testaments as verbally inspired by God and inerrant. They are preserved
for all generations and are the supreme and final authority in faith and
life. The King James Bible is God's Word to the English speaking people.
(II Tim. 3:16-17, II Peter 1:20-21) We believe in one God, eternally existing in three
persons: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. (II Cor. 13:14; Matt. 28:19) We believe that Jesus Christ was begotten by the Holy
Spirit of the virgin Mary and is true God and true man. (John 1:1-18;
Luke 1:26-35) We believe that man was created in the image of God;
that he sinned and thereby incurred not only physical death, but also
spiritual death which is separation from God; and that all human beings
are born with a sinful nature and are totally depraved and that they
must be born again to be accepted of God. (Rom. 5:12; Rom. 3:9-20; John
3:1-21) We believe the Lord Jesus Christ died for our sins,
according to the Scriptures, as a representative and vicarious
sacrifice; and that all who believe upon Him are justified on the ground
of His shed blood and are saved by grace through faith wholly apart from
human merit and works. (I Cor. 15:3-4; Heb. 9:22; Rom. 5:8-9, Eph. 2:6
10). We believe in the resurrection of the crucified body of
our Lord, in His ascension into heaven and in His present life there for
us as High Priest and Advocate. (I Cor. 15:3-4, Acts 1:9-11; Heb.
4:14-16; I John 2:1-2) We believe that all who receive by faith the Lord Jesus
Christ are born again of the Holy Spirit and thereby become the children
of God; that they are indwelt and sealed by the Holy Spirit and so
secured unto the day of redemption. (John 1:12-13; I Cor. 6:19-20; Eph.
1:13-14; Eph. 4:30) We believe that the New Testament Church is a local,
independent, visible body of baptized believers who have covenanted
themselves together to carry out the commands of our Lord Jesus Christ,
including preaching the gospel to every creature, baptizing them, and
teaching them. We believe that the Church is the only organization
Christ left behind to carry on His work in the world. (Acts 2:47; Matt.
16:18; Rev. 22:16) We believe baptism is the immersion of the believer in
water by the authority of the local church, to show burial of the old
life of sin and the resurrection to the new life of the Christian. The
one other church ordinance is that of the Lord's Supper and it is to be
observed by the members of the local church to show forth the Lord's
death till He comes. Moreover, we believe that neither water baptism nor
the Lord's Supper has any saving merit. (John 1:12-13; Rom. 6:3-4; I Cor.
11:23-26) We believe that the Scriptures clearly teach every
believer is to live a life of separation unto the Lord from all worldly
and sinful practices; to abide in Christ; to walk in the Spirit; and to
enjoy victory over the world, the flesh, and the devil; and faithfully
do the work of a personal soul-winner. (Rom. 12:1-2; II Cor. 6:4-7:1; I
John 2:15-17; Col. 3:1-17) We believe in that "blessed hope", the personal and
imminent coming of our Lord into the air for His Saints, raising from
the grave those who sleep in death; that He will personally and
literally return with His Saints to reign over all the earth for 1,000
glorious years. We believe that between these events will occur the
seven years of tribulation, Daniel's seventieth week. (I Thess. 4:13-16,
Titus 2:11-14; Matt. 24:27-30; Rev. 1:7) We believe "the gifts and callings of God are without
repentance," and therefore His covenant people, Israel, now "scattered
and peeled," shall be redeemed and re-gathered to Palestine; and under
the personal and millennial reign of Christ upon David's throne in
Jerusalem, shall become the head of the nations. (Rom. 11:25-32; Isa.
11:1-12) We believe in the bodily resurrection of the just and
the unjust, the everlasting blessedness with the Lord of the saved, and
the everlasting punishment in the Lake of Fire of the lost. (John
5:28-29; Rev. 20:4-6; Rev. 20:11-15; II Thess. 1:6-9; Rev. 21:1-8; Matt.
25:41,46) We believe that Satan is a personal being, a fallen
angel, the prince of devils, the great enticer and deceiver, the god of
this age, and the adversary of Christ and His Church, and that his
destiny is eternal punishment. (Isa. 14:12-15; II Cor. 4:3-4; II Cor.
11:14; I Peter 5:6; Rev. 12:9-11; Rev. 20:10) We believe in the Bible account of creation, in six days
by God, and oppose the theory of evolution as being of the devil. We
believe Christ holds all the laws of nature together. (Gen. 1:2; John
1:1-10; Isa. 40:25-28; Psa. 147:4; Col. 1:16-17) We believe in the stewardship of our lives: our minds,
talents, time, money, health, loved ones, and all things belong to the
Lord; we each will be called upon to give an account of our stewardship
for God's glory and that a tenth of all our material wealth is His and
should be brought each week to His storehouse. We believe that we have
not given an offering until we have paid the tithe and given above it
from the nine-tenths that remain. (Mal. 3:10; Prov. 3:9-10; Matt. 23:23;
I Cor. 16:2) We believe that civil government is of divine
appointment, for the interests and good order of human society; that
magistrates are to be prayed for, conscientiously honored and obeyed;
except only in those things opposed to the will of our Lord Jesus
Christ; who is the only Lord of the conscience, and the coming King of
the Earth. (Matt. 22:21; Rom. 13:1-7) We believe that a marriage is a covenant between one man and one woman who were made a man or a woman by God at conception and plan to always be a man or woman. We believe God designed only two genders; male and female. Homosexuality, trans-sexuality, and bisexuality are sinful lifestyle choices. We believe co-habitation of a man and a woman as husband and wife without a legal, biblical marriage covenant is a sinful practice. (Gen. 1:26-27, 2:20-25; Eph. 5:22-33; Col. 3:18-19)
